No matter how big or small, as the entrance to your home your hallway should indicate to guests what to expect in the rest of your home. You will probably need a console table, somewhere to put coats and hats such as a coat rack or coat stand, a hall mirror and possibly an umbrella stand. As well as being practical it should also make a statement.

So many things can end up in a hallway that it becomes untidy, so you need furniture that store things tidily; shoe racks, coat stands, umbrella stands, etc. With just some small pieces of furniture in place there is soon a place for everything.

A place to make that statement and also provide some more hallway storage. Even where space is limited, a small console table or telephone table can make all the difference to a bare hallway.

Somewhere to rest and take off (or put on) outdoor clothes. If you have the space then an occasional chair or hall bench make a really useful addition to your hall.
